Jessica Winters | Makkovik, Nunatsiavut
Jessica is a remarkable painter, mixed media artist, and curator from Makkovik, Nunatsiavut, now calling St. John’s, Newfoundland home.
Her incredible talent has shone in various group exhibitions, including prestigious showcases like Tether at the Yukon Arts Center and Coming into Sight at the Canada Council for the Arts. She is also one of the esteemed recipients of the Hnatyshyn Foundation’s Saunderson Prizes for Emerging Artists.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE ORANGE SHIRT ELEMENTS:
- Indigenous Harmony: On the right, the Innu; on the left, the Inuit, distinguished by their traditional clothing. Together, they symbolize the unity of Indigenous cultures.
- Intergenerational Wisdom: An Inuk guides a young person, while an Innu assists an elder. It signifies our role as bridges between generations, highlighting the importance of sharing knowledge for a brighter future.
- Caribou prints: The Caribou prints reflect the use of traditional knowledge and a deep connection to the land, guiding us forward while honoring Indigenous wisdom.
- Unity in Purpose: Roads converge towards a radiant sun, symbolizing collaboration for a common goal – a brighter future for all.
