Transportation of Musical Instruments

Musical instruments can only be accepted as Sky Checked baggage or checked baggage

Air Borealis does not allow carry-on baggage due to aircraft restrictions.

Instruments may be sky checked and/or accepted as checked baggage as long as they are properly packed in a hard-sided case and meet the size requirements. Air Borealis will accept instruments as sky check and/or checked baggage if they are not packaged properly (i.e. a soft sided case) provided the passenger agrees to sign a Limited Release Tag that releases Air Borealis for any liabilities. The Instrument must meet the size requirements.

Guitars may be sky checked. It is suggested that string instruments have their strings loosened to prevent damage caused by changes in temperature and/or pressure.

Musical instruments cannot be accepted as cabin seat baggage (to occupy a seat).

Applicable baggage fees will apply for instruments accepted as checked baggage.

Traveling with musical instruments of high value:

If passengers are traveling with musical instruments with a value greater than $2,800, the instrument is required to be shipped through Air Borealis Cargo where a declared value of the instrument can be established.

If musical instruments are lost or damaged during travel, as a result of Air Borealis mishandling, the maximum liability passengers are entitled to is $2,100. Please refer to the Canadian Transport Agency regulations for details about compensation: https://rppa-appr.ca/eng
