Pets (cats/dogs only) in the Cabin
Air Borealis does not accept pets in the cabin. All live animals must travel as checked baggage. An animal and its container are not included in the baggage allowance. Additional charges will apply and the passenger will be obligated to pay the applicable charges.
Travelling with Pets as Checked Baggage
Air Borealis accepts cats and dogs as checked baggage between April 15th and October 15th. Animals needing to travel between October 15th and April 15th may be able to travel on Air Borealis cargo flights. Arrangements must be made with our cargo department.
- A maximum of two (2) animals will be permitted in one kennel, providing the animals are familiar with each other and they may both stand up and turn around freely.
- The maximum number of kennels per flight is limited, early booking is encouraged.
- Air Borealis assumes no responsibility for feeding and/or caring for pets, nor will Air Borealis assume responsibility for injury, sickness or death of pets during travel.
- Air Borealis does not accept extra-large kennels unless booked on a cargo flight.
- The animal must be ten (10) weeks old and fully weaned.
- Animals must be contained in a clean, leak/escape proof cage or container/kennel with adequate space for the comfort of the animal. The cage or container/kennel must be approved by Air Borealis.
- The animal must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
- Air Borealis reserves the right to refuse to transport any animals that appears to be aggressive, in distress, unruly, or whose health is questionable for travel.
- Please feed your pet/s only a light meal before departure and give them water before they are brought to the check-in counter. A toy or blanket can be placed in the kennel to help them feel calm.
- Air Borealis does not recommend tranquilizers or other medications. If the pet is tranquilized, the passenger must provide proper documentation from a veterinarian upon check-in stating the animal is acceptable for travel.
- Please be advised that the aircraft cargo hold is not heated but air circulates through a ventilation system from the aircraft cabin.
Carrier Requirements
- Carriers must be hard-sided and all applicable hardware should be in place.
- Collapsible carriers are not accepted, nor are wire carriers as no part of your pet may extend outside the carrier.
- Carriers must be secure and leakproof. The door of the pet carrier must close securely, and your pet/s must not be able to easily push the door open.
- The kennel must not be locked with any type of locking mechanism. The pet/s must be easily accessed by the airline.
- Upon check-in, an Air Borealis representative will provide you with two (2) zip ties to secure the kennel door to the kennel frame after the kennel has been cleared for acceptance by airport security. The purpose of the zip tie is to lock the kennel door in place in case the kennel latch breaks during flight.
- If the carrier is equipped with wheels, these must be removed prior to check-in.
- Carriers must be marked with the pet(s) name and owner’s phone number.
- Where containers are assembled from a top and bottom part, these must be securely bolted together. Plastic clips must not be the only fasteners holding the top and bottom part together, the use of metal nuts and bolts in every hole is required.
